Lying Nude, 1930s
Eugeniusz Eibisch

Oil on wood panel, 15.5 x 19 in
Signed: Ebiche

The painting, made in Paris, is executed with tones that are warm, abundant and vibrating. The way the full-figured nude is reading as she lies with her back to the viewer, shows similarities to compositions of nudes that were created in the 1920s by Wojciech Weiss with whom Eibisch studied in Kraków (in somewhat a similar manner as the example, A Lying Nude from the Tom Podl collection). The original inspiration, however, might have been Velasquez's Venus from the National Gallery in London.

Purchased from Fibaks, 1987
