A Sick Girl, 1910
Włodzimierz Błocki
Signed: W. Błocki 910
This study of an ill, emaciated figure is considered as one of the best works by Błocki. This painting, shown at the "Exhibition of Three" (the first complete presentation of Błocki's works) in Lvov in 1911, aroused great interest among the art critics. A reviewer for Nasz Kraj magazine wrote: "The sick girl, with extremely expressive hands, is presented in a most intriguing empathic manner. There is no other comparable Polish painting in the art of that period. The way the illness is portrayed is reminiscent of its presentation in the works of Scandinavian artists at the turn of the century, such as Ejnar Nielsen (A Sick Girl, 1896)".
Provenance:
Purchased at Zbigniew M. Legutko auction, 1990 (collection of Dr. Józef Malejka's sale)
